Uniforms
What to Wear
Since the beginning of Scouts, the uniform has been a part of the Scouting method, supporting Scout quality, identification of rank, achievement, and commitment.
For most Den Meetings and activities, we ask that Cub Scouts wear an Activity Shirt with the Pack 277 logo on it or other Scout-related shirt. You will receive a 277 Activity shirt after paying your Pack Dues. Often the Scout Shop or Bert Adams trading post (camping location) will have other shirt options.
If it is a more formal activity - Pack Meetings, Blue & Gold, parades, placing flags at the Veterans Cemetery - we ask that Scouts wear the Class A Uniform. Official uniform information per rank can be found here. For Pack 277, we ask that the uniform be "waist up". We'd like for your to have the blue Scout shirt, the neckerchief (color based on rank) and the belt. The belt is important as many awards are worn on the belt. You are free to wear any blue pants or shorts that you have - they do not have to be from the Scout store. The hat, socks, and official neckerchief slide are optional. If you need a neckerchief slide, please ask and we'll give you one!
For Lions/Kindergarten - the official uniform shirt is a blue t-shirt with Lion face on it, yellow neckerchief and belt.
For Arrow of Lights/5th grade - the official uniform switches to the Troop khaki and green.
Patches - For the blue Scout shirt, it is customary to have the Atlanta Area Council patch, unit number 277 (red numbers), and the World Crest. You can sew these on at home (invisible thread is your friend!) or the Scout Shop can assist for a small fee.
Tips - You can often find Scout shirts and uniform pieces on Facebook Marketplace or at community consignment sales. When purchasing the Class A blue shirt, SIZE UP. Typically you can get 2-3 years out of a blue shirt if you size up when buying. The belt comes in one size and is designed to be cut to fit - but make sure you give yourself growing length.
We understand the Class A uniform can get pricey. You are not obligated to buy it - we are happy for you to attend meetings in an Activity shirt.
To purchase uniforms, please visit the Atlanta Scout Shop located near Truist Park. You can order online but sizing can be inconsistent.
